Aan: Leden van de Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal
Het kamertekort onder studenten is enorm. Het is onmogelijk om een kamer te vinden als je uit huis wilt. En als je iets vindt, is het vaak klein, vies of onbetaalbaar. Internationale studenten slapen soms zelfs op een camping, een bank van een medestudent of in bushokjes. Dit wordt bevestigd door de jaarlijkse monitor Studentenhuisvesting [1]:
- Er is een tekort van 26.500 studentenwoningen in Nederland.
- Dit tekort gaat de komende jaren meer dan verdubbelen tot 57.000 woningen.
- Studenten besteden ondertussen al 46% van hun inkomen aan huur.
De signalen zijn er, maar actie in Den Haag blijft uit. Met deze campagne gaan we de druk op de politiek opvoeren zodat het groeiende tekort aan betaalbare studentenkamers snel wordt aangepakt. Sluit je aan bij de campagne en teken deze petitie nu!
Welke oplossingen stellen wij voor?
- Een groot fonds voor studentenhuisvesters als SSH, DUWO of Vestide om meer betaalbare studentenkamers te bouwen.
- Flinke boetes voor huisjesmelkers die te veel huur vragen.
- Huurtoeslag voor alle studenten die op kamers wonen.
Terwijl de formatie voor het nieuwe kabinet nog gaande is, wordt er in de Tweede Kamer ook gedebatteerd over de begrotingen van alle ministeries. In de week van 25 oktober praat de Tweede Kamer over de woonbegroting van 2022. Dat moment is een eerstvolgende kans voor studenten, scholieren en ouders om de politici op te roepen om werk te maken van bovenstaande maatregelen.
Hoe meer mensen deze petitie tekenen, hoe meer druk we kunnen opbouwen met deze campagne en hoe beter we kunnen laten zien dat veel mensen het groeiende tekort aan betaalbare studentenkamer een groot probleem vinden. Sluit je aan!

There is a huge shortage of student houses in The Netherlands. It’s impossible to find a room. And when you do find something, it is often small, dirty or unaffordable. International students sometimes even sleep on a campsite, a fellow student’s couch or in bus shelters. This is confirmed by the annual Monitor Student Housing [1]:
- There is a shortage of 26.500 student houses.
- This shortage will rise to 57.000 houses in the coming years.
- Students spend on average 46% of their income on rent.
The signals are there, but action from Dutch politicians remains absent. With this campaign we are going to increase the pressure on politicians so that the growing shortage of affordable student rooms is quickly addressed. Join the campaign and sign this petition now!
What solutions do we propose?
- Establish a fund for student housing corporations such as SSH, DUWO or Vestide to build more affordable student housing.
- High fines for landlords that charge too much rent.
- Rent allowance for all students that live in student housing.
While the formation of a new government is still ongoing, the House of Representatives is also debating the budgets of all ministries. During the week of October 25, the House of Representatives will discuss the housing budget for 2022. That moment is the first opportunity for students, scholars and parents to call on the politicians to work on the above measures.
