The interest-bearing loan is part of the study grant. Students are able to take out a loan at a relatively low interest rate. Starting the 1st of September 2015, students are able to take out larger loans. The loan can be applied for, cancelled or modified on a monthly basis. The monthly interest rate starts counting the month that the loan applied for is granted to the student. The interest rate varies per calendar year. After the completion of a programme, the interest remains fixed in time intervals of five years. As of the 1st of January 2016, the mandatory period of redemption encompasses 35 years.
